Truthsome Ficathon II: Winter’s Night

Welcome to the 2nd Mal/Inara Ficathon!
This ficathon follows a very successful ‘Truthsome Ficathon’ held this past spring. (The master list of fics for that ficathon can be found here.)

The goal: A winter’s worth of Mal/Inara fanfiction to keep us cozy during the winter season. Last time we had over 2 dozen writers – let’s top that this time around! Both new and experienced writers are invited to participate.

The details: You choose the fic, the length, and even the date you will post. In short, this time around authors will have more freedom to explore the facets of the Mal/Inara relationship that interest them.

Is that all?: Nope. This time (provided we have a sufficient # of fics, although I'm sure that won't be a problem, right? *bats eyelashes*) there will also be voting at the end of the ficathon. All fics posted on time will be eligible for voting by readers, as well as ‘moderator’s choice.’ If we have a large volume of fics, then I will open up more voting categories by genre, character, etc.

What do I do?
Your assignment is to write a fic about Mal and Inara and their relationship. Write a fic that YOU want to write. This can be platonic or romantic, funny or dramatic, angsty or light, emotional or smutty, introspective or epic. You may choose to use supporting characters or none at all. You may choose to use 500 words or 5,000 words. There is no word requirement.

All fics entered for the ficathon must be new and stand alone.

What if I need a prompt?
The general prompt for this ficathon, for those who would like one, is: ‘winter’ and ‘night’. Take the prompt in any direction you would like. ;)

When?
Sign-ups: November 14-December 3, 2006
Posting deadline: Beginning January 8, 2006
Choose the week you would like to post your fic. If you have no preference, then I’ll roll the dice and assign one for you.
Week 1: January 8-14
Week 2: January 15-21
Week 3: January 22-28
Week 4: January 29-February 4
Week 5: February 5-11

Once signups are complete, I will make a post reminding participants which week they are signed up for.

Why not just give everyone the same deadline?
Staggering the fics across a whole month of posting dates gives readers more time to read and enjoy the writing, and gives the authors more choice about when they can post. You might want to choose Week 1 and give people more time to read your fic, or if you choose Week 5 you will have more time to write. Or, you may be somewhere in between ;)

ALL ficathon participants who successfully complete and post their fic during their selected/assigned week will receive a participation banner AND their fic will be eligible for voting.

What if I’ve never written Mal and Inara before?
Welcome! Please consider this a golden first opportunity. Where better to start than with a community of Mal/Inara fans? We’re nice. And we like reading fic.
